International Women’s Day 2025: Empowering Women, Driving Progress

International Women’s Day 2025: Empowering Women, Driving Progress

Every year on March 8, the world comes together to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD)—a day dedicated to recognizing the achievements of women, advocating for gender equality, and amplifying the voices of women and girls globally. This year’s theme, For ALL Women and Girls: Accelerate Progress. Rights. Equality, highlights the urgent need for inclusive opportunities, representation, and empowerment for women in all spheres of life.

At the Abiodun and Yinka Atobatele Foundation (AYAF), we firmly believe that empowerment goes beyond words; it requires action. That’s why we have taken intentional steps to drive meaningful change in the lives of women and girls, ensuring they have the tools, resources, and platforms to succeed.

Breaking Barriers in Tech: 100 Girls EmpowerHer Initiative

One of the most significant barriers facing women today is the digital gender divide. While technology shapes the future, many young girls still lack access to the training and resources needed to thrive in tech-related fields. At AYAF, we are tackling this challenge head-on through our 100 Girls EmpowerHer Initiative—a transformative program providing young girls in Abeokuta with free training in tech skills, soft skills development, and internship opportunities.

The initiative is more than just a skills-training program; it is a movement that equips young girls with the confidence, knowledge, and mentorship to break into traditionally male-dominated spaces. By empowering them with digital skills, we are ensuring that they are not left behind in the rapidly evolving technological landscape.

Investing in Women’s Health and Well-being

Empowerment is holistic. Beyond career opportunities, health and well-being play a crucial role in a woman’s ability to reach her full potential. Through our medical outreach initiatives and the Bilikisu Iyabode Atobatele Memorial Health Center, we continue to provide access to free healthcare services, ensuring that women receive the care they deserve.

From maternal health to general medical check-ups, we are committed to reducing health disparities and supporting women in leading healthy, fulfilled lives.

Building a Future of Inclusion and Equality

International Women’s Day is more than just a celebration—it is a reminder of the work that still needs to be done. Gender equity is not just a women’s issue; it is a societal issue that requires collective effort from individuals, organizations, and governments.

At AYAF, we remain steadfast in our mission to create a world where every girl and woman has equal opportunities to thrive—whether in tech, healthcare, education, or leadership. As we commemorate International Women’s Day 2025, we reaffirm our commitment to breaking barriers, championing inclusion, and creating a future where every woman can succeed, unhindered.
